LOCALBIRDER – HOWLANDS MARSH & COLNE POINT – Wednesday 30th January 2013

A great day in North Essex starting at Howlands Marsh where good numbers of COMMON BUZZARD & MARSH HARRIERS were noted. Flag Creek held plenty of TEAL as well as WIGEON and SHOVELER. A CETTI’S WARBLER sang briefly from the scrub although most birds were keeping down in the strong winds. After lunch we moved onto Colne Point and almost got cut off by the tide!

Changing our plans, we watch from the road and had outstanding views of a female HEN HARRIER just 30 feet away! Other highlights were four GREY PARTRIDGE, MARSH HARRIER, 7 CORN BUNTING and an adult KITTIWAKE flying over the fields.
