SOMERSET LEVELS - Thursday 21st February 2013

A day down on the Somerset Levels produced some excellent birding on a fine but very cold day.

Started off with a superb PIED-BILLED GREBE at the RSPB Ham Wall reserve where we also saw BITTERN, GREY WAGTAIL, COMMON BUZZARD and MARSH HARRIER.

The day rounded off with the amazing spectacle of 2.5 million STARLINGS in massive flocks wheeling over the reedbeds in glorious evening sunlight!

We are planning a return weekend trip here in February 2014 and are now taking provisional bookings.
