FINGRINGHOE WICK – LOCALBIRDER – WEDNESDAY 15th MAY 2013

Despite strong winds during the morning we started off with singing NIGHTINGALES as well as LESSER WHITETHROAT, BLACKCAP, WHITETHROAT, TURTLE DOVE, HOBBY, REED WARBLER, CETTI’S WARBLER and a small party of waders on the estuary which included WHIMBREL, BAR-TAILED GODWIT, RINGED PLOVER and DUNLIN.

After lunch in the visitor centre beside the wood-burning stove we wandered back down to the estuary where to our delight, a cracking HONEY BUZZARD flew slowly over the estuary heading northwest and being mobbed by a CARRION CROW!

The sheltered parts of the reserve offered some respite from the wind and we saw a FOUR-SPOTTED CHASER and LARGE RED DAMSELFLY. Other species included BULLFINCH, GARDEN WARBLER, GREEN WOODPECKER and SPARROWHAWK.
