LOCALBIRDER – TWO TREE ISLAND & BOWERS MARSH RSPB – Wednesday 30th October 2013

A good day in south Essex started with good numbers of waders on the scrape at Two Tree Island including 5 GREENSHANK, 12 SNIPE, RINGED PLOVERS, DUNLIN, GREY PLOVER and AVOCETS. On the saltmarsh, we noted good numbers of BRENT GEESE but the bushes and scrub were decidedly quiet.

After lunch we visited the new RSPB reserve at Bowers Marsh. This area has great potential and we watched four SPOONBILL flying with large numbers of gulls. BEARDED TIT and CETTI’S WARBLER called from the reeds and several MARSH HARRIERS were seen causing havoc amongst roosting gulls
