A great day in Suffolk/Norfolk which got off to a cracking start with 3 SHORELARK and an adult GREAT NORTHERN DIVER showing well in the morning sunshine at Benacre Broad.

At nearby Lowestoft we quickly located 5 PURPLE SANDPIPERS feeding on rocks which gave us good views. Further up the coast we found 2 COMMON CRANES feeding alongside the road and nearby a large flock of PINK-FOOTED GEESE were feeding in a recently harvested field of Sugar Beet. Careful scanning yielded a single BARNACLE GOOSE amongst the vast flock.

In flooded fields close to Sea Palling we picked up 4 BEWICK’S SWANS along with 14 WHOOPER SWANS plus a COMMON BUZZARD.

We rounded off the day at Hickling Broad raptor watchpoint where the light was superb and the birds kept us entertained with 3 HEN HARRIERS, BARN OWL, 40 MARSH HARRIERS and 7 COMMON CRANES!
