Our Blackwater Boat trip began with an adult BLACK BRANT feeding on the foreshore, plus COMMON EIDER amongst the moored fishing boats. Salcott Channel produced great views of an adult SHAG plus 3 MARSH HARRIERS, hundreds of WIGEON and both GOLDENEYE and RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS.

It was quite choppy as we headed west, although we did see several SLAVONIAN GREBES plus 3 COMMON SCOTER. GOLDENEYE and RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS which were very numerous. Down past Goldhanger we noted a single RED-THROATED DIVER.

On the journey back we found more SLAVONIAN GREBES including 3 together! A female VELVET SCOTER plus male PEREGRINE added to the variety and vast clouds of waders were seen as the tide covered their chosen roosting areas.

We arrived back at Mersea after what had been yet another successful boat trip and we look forward to our forthcoming trips in 2015.
