WHERE THE PAGER TAKES US – AUTUMN SPECIAL #3
Saturday 28th September 2019

We headed south to spend the day in Kent where the birding kicked off with a moulting adult AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER with around 100 EUROPEAN GOLDEN PLOVER which offered good scope views. EURASIAN HOBBY, WESTERN MARSH HARRIER, 400 BLACK-TAILED GODWIT, 50 PIED AVOCET and small numbers of DUNLIN & COMMON RINGED PLOVER.

Dungeness was our venue for the remainder of the day and a seawatch included ARCTIC SKUA, 300+ SANDWICH TERNS, RED-THROATED DIVER and RAZORBILL. On the RSPB reserve, highlights included 3 WESTERN CATTLE EGRETS, 3 GREAT EGRETS, BLACK-NECKED GREBE, 2 WHINCHATS, NORTHERN WHEATEARS, COMMON GREENSHANK, GARGANEY, BLACK TERN, 3 LITTLE GULLS plus a probable SIBERIAN COMMON TERN of the race longipennis.

Despite blustery conditions, we enjoyed an excellent day with a great group and some cracking birding!
