YARE VALLEY WILDLIFE SPECTACULAR
YARE VALLEY WILDLIFE SPECTACULAR

The area around the River Yare in Norfolk hosts a significant wintering flock of Taiga Bean Geese as well as a large number of wintering duck, including thousands of Eurasian Wigeon and Eurasian Teal. Peregrine Falcon and Merlin are regular on the marshes and Water Pipit are usually present on the flooded fields.

We will also visit Strumpshaw Fen, the nearby RSPB reserve which is home to Eurasian Bittern, Cetti’s Warbler, Water Rail, Common Kingfisher and European Otter whilst the bird feeders can produce Marsh Tit and Eurasian Nuthatch.

We finish the day with one of the most fantastic sights and sounds in birding and one that featured in BBC’s ‘Winterwatch’ – over 50,000 Rooks and Western Jackdaws gathering and flying on mass overhead to roost in nearby woodland – an early Christmas treat!
