Godfried is a keen, Dutch birding guide based in Extremadura, Spain. He started birding at a young age and gradually broadened his interest in nature and wildlife. He achieved a ‘Bachelor of Science’ degree in Land and Water Management specialising in Landscape, Ecological Planning and Engineering. Since then he has worked as a researcher on birds, bats and environmental education. In 1999 Godfried became a professional birding guide and has since led birding tours for many different companies from the UK, Holland, USA and Scandinavia. The Iberian Peninsula is his local patch which he knows well, but recently he has been asked to guide in other destinations such as The Gambia, Cuba, Romania and Iceland. He loves to share his knowledge and passion for nature with his groups. He has a relaxed style of guiding, giving priority to enjoying nature and spending time to look at the beauty of wildlife.

Godfried visited Iceland for the first time in 1998 and was instantly thrilled with the landscape, the natural history and the wildlife. He has returned several times and in recent years has led four birding tours on this fascinating Island, which has become one of his favourite places.
